FRIDAY MEMES: BOOK BEGINNINGS & FRIDAY 56 — APRIL 29

Welcome to our Friday Memes, where we celebrate excerpts from our current or up-next reads.

Book Beginnings is hosted by A Few More Pages,

and The Friday 56 is led  Freda’s Voice.

Today I grabbed a book off of my TBR stack.  Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand, by Helen Simonson, tells the tale of Maj. Ernest Pettigrew, an honor-bound Englishman and widower, and the very embodiment of duty and pride.

Beginnings:  Major Pettigrew was still upset about the phone call from his brother’s wife and so he answered the doorbell without thinking.

Uh-oh…that makes me wonder what or whom he’s going to see on the other side of the door.

P. 56:  The carved sideboard still displayed his grandmother’s silver soup tureen and candlesticks, but an oxygen pump took up half the surface.

What are you featuring today?  I hope you’ll stop by and share….

    1. Oh, that’s awesome, Freda…I shudder every time I think about my last move, since the house I was downsizing from had been my home for thirteen years. Lots of stuff to sort out….

      Thanks for stopping by.

  1. The beginning lines make me think he’s not supposed to answer the door. Plus, I want to know what his brother’s wife said.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I started this one a few weeks ago, but didn’t finish it. It was ok, there were just too many other interesting things to read on my Kindle. I might get back to it later.
