WAITING ON WEDNESDAY — YOU ARE MY ONLY — JUNE 1

Welcome to Waiting on Wednesday, our bookish event hosted by Jill, at Breaking the Spine.

Today’s selection is something that has sparked my enthusiasm.  First of all, I’ve been reading such good things about this author.  Secondly, it’s release date is significant to me.  It is coming out on my birthday, October 25!

You Are My Only, by Beth Kephart, is a mystery to me.  I couldn’t find any product descriptions on Amazon or on the author’s website.  But the cover looks good.

And now, thanks to Jennifer, at A Reader’s Journey, I have a description from Goodreads.

Emmy Rane is married at nineteen , a mother by twenty. Trapped in a life with a husband she no longer loves, Baby is her only joy. Then one sunny day in September, Emmy takes a few fateful steps away from her baby and returns to find her missing. All that is left behind is a yellow sock. Fourteen years later, Sophie, a homeschooled, reclusive teenage girl is forced to move frequently and abruptly from place to place, perpetually running from what her mother calls the “No Good.” One afternoon, Sophie breaks the rules, ventures out, and meets Joey and his two aunts. It is this loving family that opens Sophie’s eyes, giving her the courage to look into her past. What she discovers changes her world forever…

The riveting stories of Emmy and Sophie—alternating narratives of loss, imprisonment, and freedom regained—escalate with breathless suspense toward an unforgettable climax….

I preordered this book for “Sparky,” my Kindle.

Here’s another preordered book for Sparky, coming in July 2011.

Next to Love, by Ellen Feldman, is a story about the yearning for self.

Next to Love is a remarkable novel driven by the powerful engine of most great literature: the yearning for a self. These three deeply, compassionately evoked women seek their own individual identities as the world and the people they love undergo profound change. But they have each other and they have their capacity to love, and Ellen Feldman brilliantly shows us how those things prevail.”—Robert Olen Butler, author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain

Next to Love is a beautiful, sometimes heartbreaking story about love and war and what comes after. A breakthrough work by a writer who has already established herself as one of our best historical novelists.”—Kevin Baker, author of Dreamland

What have you been waiting for?  I hope you’ll stop by and share….

  2. That Beth Kephart book sounds sad but really good. I’ll keep it in mind. The other one, NEXT TO LOVE, is already on my “get it” list. LOL

    1. I don’t know why I’ve never read anything by this author…I’ve certainly seen her name around. But now I will read one! Thanks for stopping by, Nise…and I’m excited about the Feldman book, too.

    1. Marce, I couldn’t either, so I had a contest on my Rainy Days and Mondays blog. Funny, huh? While the winner didn’t actually come up with “Sparky,” the choices she mentioned led me down that pathway.

      Thanks for stopping by.
