Good morning! It’s time to spark some creativity today, and participate in Theme Thursday, hosted by Reading Between Pages.
Here’s the story on this event:
Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event that will be open from one thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:
- A theme will be posted each week (on Thursday’s)
- Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
- Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
- It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
Ex: If the theme is KISS; your sentence can have “They kissed so gently” or “Their lips touched each other” or “The smooch was so passionate”
This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.
This week’s theme is
ANY ACTION (go, walk, close, clap etc)
Today I’m excerpting from Then Came You, by Jennifer Weiner, a tale that weaves themes of class and entitlement, surrogacy and donorship, the rights of a parent and the measure of motherhood.
On page 8, I found this excerpt:
I bent over my dinner, hoping he’d just keep walking, and began the time-consuming process of separating the chilies from the chunks of chicken and pineapple, wondering whether he’d work up the nerve to say something or if he was just cruising by for a closer look. When I looked up again he was standing right in front of my table for two, with nothing to eat.

What did you find this week? I hope you’ll stop by and share….

I love that cover, and like confuzzled… I never read anything by her either. I will have to check in my newly discovered bookstore (Book Warehouse) and see if they may have a copy. It is the closest bookstore to where I live, in an outlet mall, and I am so excited. I noticed it yesterday, they told me they have been there since October. I ended up buying 4 audio books, well, it was actually six, because one was a set of three books for one. And also if I bought 4, one was free. I’m lovin’ it…

Oh, I hope you do, Gigi Ann. She always makes me laugh, yet she also plunges into some heavy issues, too.

Interesting. Separating the pineapples, chicken, and chilies seems like a time consuming process.

Great snippet. I’ve only read one Jennifer Weiner book but didn’t really enjoy it. I might have to give her another go with this one.

What’s interesting is that I have two guesses for what the fellow might be: a crush . . . or a panhandler! =P

I love the cover. Great snippet as well. Just curious to know what genre this book falls under.

I guess the genre is women’s fiction…more serious than “chick-lit.” Thanks for stopping by, Kavyen.
