Welcome to another Saturday Snapshot event, hosted by At Home With Books.
Every week, we come together with a snapshot or two or more….sharing a glimpse of our world and peeking into yours.
I pulled some more photo albums down from the shelf this week, and here are some of the snapshots I found!
Right after 9/11/01, I took a trip up to Northern California, to Nevada City; I’d been planning the visit before the disastrous events in NY…and decided to go ahead anyway. Sometimes the only way to get through the pain is to share time with friends and family.
Judi, pictured below, is a friend I met more than 49 years ago when we were both in college. Here she is on her lovely deck with her two dogs, Hannah and Murphy.
And here’s a view at the front of her home.
After I returned home, I started a new job, where I would work for the next three years. And during my off time, I enjoyed the foothill house and loved rearranging and shifting the rooms around. Here is a shot of the den that I called my Ireland Room (2003) with photos snapped by my eldest son when he was living in Ireland. By 2006, I had turned this room into a master bedroom and painted it sage green. The Ireland shots moved upstairs.
Above: The retreat upstairs was one I created after the downstairs rooms were taken over by my youngest son and his wife, with their newborn baby (a preemie). As you can see, I have a coffee pot, a microwave, and a mini-fridge. I could hole up there for days…lol.
Then…a few months later, I took a trip to LA to visit son Brett, who was the owner of a resort that included a golf course at one of the locations. Here he is with his three kids (the same ones you all have seen recently in their teenage incarnations!).
This was taken ten years ago!
I had fun traipsing down memory lane again. Now I’m off to see what the rest of you are sharing!
Your friend lives in such a beautiful place. How amazing to be surrounded by all those trees. It look idyllic.

I love it there, too, Ginny….and it was a peaceful kind of retreat. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your weekend.

Old photos are special, thanks for reminding me that I don’t look at mine nearly often enough.

Thanks for stopping by, Louise….sadly, some of my oldest ones (from the 1960s) did not survive well due to the acid paper of the photo albums. And the 1970s photos have become discolored (some of them).
These are from a later time, thankfully, and I so appreciate the new albums!

Ooh, I love that upstairs retreat room. And I see that you are also a collector of dolls. And I like that last photo with the children.

Yes, it’s hard to believe how fast ten years went….with those kids now in their teens. And I have fond memories of times in that retreat. It was the only way to have any peace and quiet with my “grown” kids living in my downstairs area.
I love my doll collections, but I’ve cut down on those I display at one time in my smaller space…lol. Thanks for visiting, Carolyn.

I love her home….and when we see each other (less often these days), it’s like we’re picking up where we left off. Thanks for visiting, Bonnie.
I did enjoy that retreat….in my now small and “alone” space, I don’t need one, except when the grandkids visit. I liked having all those things in my room.

It was a great walking trail, too, Cheryl, although the altitude left me a bit breathless. Thanks for visiting.

There’s nothing better than visiting old friends! You have more energy than I do – once I get a room decorated, it usually stays that way.

I used to move things around more in that foothill house, probably because people were always moving in and out; I ended up using each of the bedrooms as my own at one time or another. Thanks for stopping by, Kathy.

Funny that Ralph and I were talking about an hour ago about how we enjoyed our trip through California last August. California is so much more than you think it is, if you’ve never been there. Great photos, Laurel!

I love Northern California, and the coastal areas too. LA is fun to visit, but it’s not the kind of place I want to live. However, Central Valley of California reminds me of places I always said I WOULDN’T live…lol. But we are only 2 hours from the coast and 45 minutes from the mountains. Thanks for visiting, Fran.

broken cookies don’t count has hit the veritable nail on its head; California has so much to explore and is so much more than my LA and San Francisco.

It is, Sim….I love SF and so enjoy visiting LA. And the coast is long and gorgeous. Where I live is not my favorite part, but it’s close to some of my favorites. Thanks for visiting.
I saw The Company You Keep today….loved it!

I adore those trees and that deck, too, Melissa; I almost moved up there when my house was on the market, but my kids threw a fit. (They were afraid of losing their babysitter! lol).
It is kind of far away: five + hours.

I can see where some time surrounded by nature and the forest would be restorative.
Amazing how much everyone and everything changes… even if it’s only 10 years!

I absolutely loved the woodsy area where my friend lives…and wish I could go up there more often….and I can’t believe that it’s been so long since I last visited. It was 2006, when I was selling my house, and I made an offer on a house up there. But with a contingency….mine had to sell first, and it didn’t.
Thanks for stopping by, Leslie….and I certainly rambled on here! lol
