Welcome to our regular feature, Saturday Snapshot, our opportunity to showcase photos we or friends and family have captured. The event is now hosted by West Metro Mommy.
Today I am featuring photos from the albums again. I grabbed a few to scan, shots that are reminiscent of my little guesthouse in the foothills dubbed Rainbow Cottage—the house I sold six years ago, along with the main house. I never actually lived in this little cottage (I was in the main house), but I always adored it. When you see the room colors my daughter chose, you will understand the name.
Next come two shots of the kitchen/great room open-floor plan…
And once again…the only remnant of those times that I still have: the Rainbow Cottage sign that now sits on my patio. It was planted in the ground outside the guesthouse.
That’s it for this week….now I’m off to check out your array of photos. Enjoy the weekend!
It looks so welcoming and I love the name. It’s good to have mementos as well as photos.

I loved it….it sat down the lawn from my main house, and I never actually got to live in it! Sigh…first my son and his family, and then my daughter and hers. But she was the one who painted it so colorfully. Thanks for stopping by, Margaret.

How nice to have the sign still. The walls were certainly colourful.

Yes, I once painted walls in similar colors (back in the 70s), when I lived in another house; that was during my daughter’s preschool years, and she remembered and recreated them in the guesthouse. Thanks for visiting, Louise…and I loved the sign, which I had handmade by an artist. It’s a bit “weathered” now.

We are trying to think of a name for our house. I never thought of it as small, but a co-worker remarked, when she first saw it, “What a lovely cottage.” A cottage, then. And I think a cottage must have a name.
I bet you miss your Rainbow Cottage (an apt name, I would say). It looks like a place I would love to live.
Here’s my Saturday Snapshot!

I do miss it, Deb. I always enjoyed “visiting” my kids, when they took turns living in it, and often thought I should move into the guesthouse and rent out the main house, which was a two-story house and not as cozy.
Thanks for stopping by.

Very colorful! Our old house had much more colorful rooms than our current one, I miss when we were brave enough to go for it with color!

Yes, as I mentioned in another comment, I did use colors like these for a house I lived in…back in the 70s. But I probably wouldn’t choose a “rainbow” of colors now…lol. Fun, though, right? Thanks for stopping by, Jill.

Wow. Super colorful. Do you feel sad when you look at these and wonder if the new owners have kept your wonderful color palette?

I actually had the occasion to see the house again, along with the main house, when some parcels shipped there inadvertently. The new owners insisted that I take a tour (it was a small town, and that’s how people are there!), and I am sad to say that everything was redone in beige. Nothing wrong with beige, but it was definitely not what I remembered! lol Thanks for stopping by, Anne, and enjoy your weekend.

How delightful! It reminds me of a little country Bed and Breakfast cottage.

I only had a small period of time when nobody was living in it, just before I sold the houses, and I enjoyed fixing it up with my stuff. I redid the bathroom with a new shower stall (after ten years of kids and grandkids, it needed it!); and I actually used it for guests then. It was a great eight months or so that I got to do that.
Thanks for stopping by, Leslie…and now I’m feeling very nostalgic, and missing it. lol

Oh, I often think about that, Irene…but between the main house and the guesthouse, plus the huge yard…it got to be too much upkeep.
Plus the town itself was a bit isolated.
Thanks for stopping by, Irene…and I agree that the name matches the colors.

Your cottage looks adorable! It reminds me of an old Sesame Street picture book, The House of Seven Colors.

Yes, I can see that, Cheryl….I used to love babysitting the grandchildren there (when they lived in it); reading picture books in a fairytale cottage.
Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your weekend.

That’s the perfect name for that cottage! I’m glad you still have the sign.

Me, too, Kathy. When I had the sign created, my daughter was a bit squeamish about having it outside her door, but I insisted…I actually placed it halfway between the main house and the guesthouse…and if you look closely, in the bottom right corner is an arrow pointing toward the guesthouse.
