THIS WEEKS RANDOM QUESTION: Do you like new book smell? Old book smell? All book smell?
***
I love new and old book smells. My early childhood was spent in an old library that shared space with the village post office, so when I now go into an old post office, I am also struck with the scent. The one that reminds me of bookish things.
Later, I came to adore new books and spent lots of time buying books in bookstores…until they started closing down.
Now we have Barnes & Noble in my neighborhood…and I enjoy spending time there. They also have a coffee shop, so sometimes I just settle in to read.
I want to start visiting the library again, as we have a lovely one not too far from my home.
What are your thoughts about bookish scents?
***
I’m definitely more a new-book-smell kind of reader! But if the book has an old-book look to it, then that’s even better!

I LOVE the way books smell. I have several different candles that smell like new books, old books, and libraries. 🙂

I’m sad there isn’t a bookstore near where I live. It’s a shame. Our library is spectacular, though.

We used to have two bookstores in the neighborhood, but now have only one. But better than none, right? Libraries are good, too. Thanks for visiting, Allison.

I wholeheartedly endorse the sentiment to start going to the library again! I like to wander the stacks at my library and breathe in the book scents.

Oh yes… Opening a real book and fanning the pages to sniff up that particular smell… yum! I believe there is a perfume on the market that claims to reproduce the small of books. Not sure I’d want to wear it, though – it would constantly have me wanting to dive into a book!

Ha! Yes, I can see us bookaholics going around wearing that perfume…and we could start a riot, with people chasing the scent.
Thanks for stopping by, Sarah, and I think the scent of libraries is such a great combination of new and old books.

Oh yes! Perhaps if they made it a room fragrance – I’d NEVER leave home then!
