A BIT OF ME (ME) — AN ODYSSEY — MARCH 19

Good morning, and welcome to A Bit of Me (Me), hosted by There’s a Book.

As usual, in order to reveal those bits and pieces of our interior selves, we answer our weekly prompt.

This Weeks Question: If you had, an option to choose a place anywhere in the world where you could live for an entire year, where would it be and why?

There are a lot of places to consider, but my choices would begin with:
THE ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE
Then I would hop on over to IRELAND....

Dublin -- A Pub

My eldest son is a bit of an expatriate by now, beginning with the time in the mid-nineties when he did a “London semester” from the university he was attending (he subsequently lived in Prague, and now in Berlin).  After the London semester, he went to Ireland…to visit.  And ended up staying several months.

When he returned, he did a gallery showing of some Ireland photos in Sacramento, CA. That was a memorable event, and, of course, I have several of those photos on my bedroom walls (my Ireland room).
I wish I had some on the computer to show, instead of these “Internet photos,” but you get the idea.
As for England, the countryside was his favorite place, but he also enjoyed London.
For a time, while living in Ireland, he stayed in a gatehouse of a big estate and did some odds and ends for them, to earn a bit of money so that he could focus on his photography.
His travels and adventures have intrigued me, and I would love walking some of the same pathways.
Of course, I’d also love to visit Berlin and see some of that part of the world, but I wouldn’t want to live there for a year.  Even with my own “interpreter,” the language issue would hinder my independence.
So what about you?  What places do you dream about, and where would you go for a year?

  1. As I mentioned on Danielle’s blog, my son’s gf went on a family vacation to Ireland 2 years ago and said the scenery was beautiful. Wasn’t impressed with the weather though. Hopefully your dream will come true.

  2. The English countryside and Ireland – great choices! Love them both. I picked Argentina for my place to live a year. I’ve been before and felt like I left too soon!

  3. I’m absolutely jealous of your son! I’ve always wanted to do something like that…maybe someday (for us both)!

I also love the idea of the English countryside, I think because it reminds me of Beatrix Potter. I’d love to visit her home! Though I could obviously be completely misplacing it’s location. LOL No matter, I’d love to take a tour similar to yours and take in all the gorgeous scenery. I miss the green of the East Coast I think. 😉
