THURSDAY SPARKS –THEME THURSDAY & BOOKING — JUNE 16

To spark your creativity today, and to take another look at the ordinary event of reading, here are our Thursday Themes events, hosted by Reading Between the Pages, and Booking Through Thursday.

THEME THURSDAYS:

Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event that will be open from one thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:

  • A theme will be posted each week (on Thursday’s)
  • Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
  • Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
  • It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
Ex: If the theme is KISS; your sentence can have “They kissed so gently” or “Their lips touched each other” or “The smooch was so passionate”

This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.

This week’s theme is

SHAPES

I’m excerpting from Dismantled, by Jennifer McMahon.

“Do you want your parents back together or not?”  Mel asks, pushing her glasses with the heavy square plastic frames up her nose. p. 24

BOOKING THROUGH THURSDAY:

Here’s our prompt today:

With the advent (and growing popularity) of eBooks, I’m seeing more and more articles about how much “better” they can be, because they have the option to be interactive … videos, music, glossaries … all sorts of little extra goodies to help “enhance” your reading experience, rather like listening to the Director’s commentary on a DVD of your favorite movie.

How do you feel about that possibility? Does it excite you in a cutting-edge kind of way? Or does it chill you to the bone because that’s not what reading is ABOUT?

I am definitely the kind of person who hesitates for just a bit before embracing new technologies.  I was probably the last person around to get a VCR, then a DVD, or even a computer.  But now I’m a big fan of these kinds of advances.

I love the idea of having information at my fingertips.  So while I haven’t tried the interactive features of Sparky, my Kindle—yet!—I do think that once I do, I will embrace these new goodies, too.  Right now, I’m just reveling in being able to download my books in seconds.

I still want and hope to always have print books around me.  Just as I mentioned last week, I surround myself with them.

But Sparky is ready to offer all the advances I might want to explore.  The best of both worlds.

What are your thoughts?  I can’t wait to find out!
