Welcome to Tuesday Sparks, an event that showcases Teaser Tuesdays, hosted by Should Be Reading.
Here’s how it works:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers.
Today I’ve grabbed a book off of my TBR stacks. The Tall Pine Polka, by Lorna Landvik, is a story set in a town on the remote edges of northern Minnesota, and featuring a homey cafe that spotlights a cast of quirky characters.
Teaser: Sunrise was just breaking through the winter morning as Lee made her first breakfast of the day. A long rectangle of hash browns was preheating next to rows of puckering bacon. She cracked two eggs and broke, unintentionally, both yolks. p. 18

Yummy! Sounds like we’re getting an early introduction to the cafe called Cup O’ Delight.
What delicious tidbits did the rest of you find today? I hope you’ll stop on by and share.
Hash browns sound so good right now.

This book is new to me but I like the teaser you dangled in front of me. I always like it when authors add food to the story. It makes the characters seem more real. We all have to eat, right?

You’re right Laurel–a quirky character. The author is quite good with her descriptions. Being from the south, tend to read southern writers for human stories but this may be worth a roadtrip to MN.

Hi Laurel Rain,
Great teaser lines this week, although it is dinner time here in the UK, so it isn’t making me feel too hungry, my smoked salmon and rice will do just nicely.
That’s the kind of breakfast I only eat when I am on holiday in Florida, minus the eggs, as I only like mine boiled either hard or soft.
This sounds like a fun, quirky read, perfect for a Winters evening by the fire.
I like the alternative cover art, which comes up on Amazon when you click on your link.

Yes, I like the one on Amazon better, actually; it’s more colorful. And, Yvonne, you would be at dinner time now, wouldn’t you? Salmon sounds delicious! Thanks for stopping by.
