THURSDAY SPARKS – THEMES – OCT. 13

 

Sparks are flying around here, as we scramble to find today’s theme for Theme Thursdays, hosted by Reading Between Pages.

Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event that will be open from one thursday to the next. Anyone can participate in it. The rules are simple:

• A theme will be posted each week (on Thursday’s)
• Select a conversation/snippet/sentence from the current book you are reading
• Mention the author and the title of the book along with your post
• It is important that the theme is conveyed in the sentence (you don’t necessarily need to have the word)
  Ex: If the theme is KISS; your sentence can have “They kissed so gently” or “Their lips touched each other” or “The smooch was so passionate”

This will give us a wonderful opportunity to explore and understand different writing styles and descriptive approaches adopted by authors.

All the themes for this month are published in advance and this week’s theme is

SYNONYMS (Pick 2 snippets that have a synonym i.e. if one sentence has KID the other should have CHILD or BABY or INFANT etc.)

Today I’ve grabbed a book from next week’s stack, and it’s one from my slowly dwindling TBR piles:  Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination, by Helen Fielding (author of Bridget Jones’s Diary).

One of her favorites on her Rules for Living list was “No one is thinking about you.  They’re thinking about themselves, just like you.”  This was a particularly useful rule at parties.  It meant, by implication, that on one was watching you either.  Therefore, you could just stand on your own and observe, and no one would think you were a sad act. p. 11

Okay, this one was a lot harder than I thought it would be.  Or maybe it was the book.  I apologize that the two words are not the same “tense,” but hopefully, this will do!
